Description

Complete Accessory Set: Whisk + Whisk Holder + Spoon

The complete set of accessories that will make your like easier preparing Matcha, as well as being necessary to reveal its true deep taste complexities. Not to mention it will make you incredibly stylish.

Contents:

  • Matcha Whisk (“Chasen”)
  • Matcha Spoon (“Chashaku”)
  • Whisk Holder (“KuseNaoshi”)

The Whisk (also called “Chasen”): using a whisk is absolutely ESSENTIAL to prepare Matcha! We highly recommend using one.

Without a whisk you will miss most of the sophistication of high quality Matcha green tea. It is used to mix the Matcha powder with hot water without lumps, and produces a creamy, delicious froth.
Our whisk is handmade out of bamboo, and is very recommended if you don’t own one already!

The Spoon (also called “Chashaku”): it may not seem necessary to own a traditional Matcha spoon. Absolutely. But you’ll find it strangely gratifying once you start using one. Using a Chashaku spoon sets you in the mood for preparing Matcha, pays tribute to its sophisticated ritual, and is simply the best way to measure Matcha.

One or two spoons, you’ll soon know what suits your taster better! Our Chashaku spoon is handmade out of bamboo.

The Whisk Holder (also called “Kuse Naoshi”): while it may not seem absolutely necessary to own a whisk holder, it prolongs the life span of a Matcha whisk considerably. Just let your whisk dry on its holder after you clean it, and its shape will be perfectly set for future use, for months or years to come. Very recommended. And it looks damn cool.

Our whisk holder is made of black ceramic, and don’t let anyone make dirty jokes about its shape. (remind them about Paul McCarthy’s “Tree“)

Material Matcha Uji (MMU) produces insanely good Matcha Green Tea.

We collaborate with traditional tea-masters, use ancient blending techniques and the highest quality tea leaves from Uji, in order to create the most exclusive blends of matcha ever offered to the world.

  • Handmade, craft matcha green tea from Uji, Kyoto.
  • Tea leaves from the first harvest only (we select the top 2 or 3 leaves of each stem).
  • Traditional straw-shading to boost taste naturally.
  • Expert blending to reach maximum flavor profiles.

We conceived 3 matcha blends with very distinct flavor profiles. They are each made of several green tea varieties, and blended according to our (secret) ratios.

  • MMU01: Sharp blend of Okumidori, Zairai, Samidori and Yabukita.
  • MMU02: Smooth blend of Samidori and Okumidori.
  • MMU03: Full bodied blend of Samidori and Gokou.

Take a look at our story, our impact on Uji tea-farming, and how we became the most funded drink on Kickstarter!

At MMU we see matcha as a pure, un-compromised green material; a substance not unlike water, gold, mercury, or precious stone.

We craft the highest quality matcha in the world with a simple & radical idea: aim for purity, and exert the most demanding taste-making skills.

Our teas are one-of-a-kind, and extremely rare: less than 100kg are produced every year.

Making high grade matcha is no walk in the park! We are lucky to enjoy the many exceptional conditions of the fabulous Uji Terroir.

But then, matcha does not craft itself: we craft our tea both in complete respect of the ancestral Uji traditions, as well as through rigorous experimentations in blending and grinding.

Through our vessels, objects and ceramics we reinvent the ritual of tea ceremony, paying homage to Japanese minimalism: leave traditions, start anew.

Who Are We?

Material Matcha Uji 宇治 is the story of two friends: Morgan & Etienne, who went on a quest for purity. Living in Japan for years, they completely let go and embarked on a journey to find, salvage and re-create the rarest tea making techniques.

Material Matcha Uji 宇治 was funded and initiated via a massively successful Kickstarter campaign raising $130,000 from an initial $10,000 goal, becoming the most funded pure “Drink” project ever!

We are incredibly honored to have won a  The Dieline Awards 2018 for the design of our products! (Category: Non-Alcoholic Beverages)

Each element in our matcha products is developed with strict attention to material:

Our matcha is held in pristine mylar packs, echoing the powder’s refined perfection, and a ceramic vessel celebrating minimalism is used for storage.

A tiny print shop was commissioned to print and produce zines on old thermal based photocopy machines, for maximum toner coverage.
